Project FUN (Fitness, Understanding and Nutrition) is a health and wellness program designed to empower young people to make informed decisions about their physical, mental and social well-being.
It is designed to improve Club members’ knowledge of healthy habits, good nutrition and physical fitness; increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities; and strengthen their ability to interact positively with others and engage in healthy relationships. Sponsored in part by the Tri-City Medical Center.
Education & Career
POWER HOUR/STEAM increases the academic proficiency of all Club members while getting kids ready for school success. This program provides a structured age-appropriate tutorial and enhanced by common core grade level enrichment activities, Khan Academy, MakerBot, Website design, collaborative reading activities, creative writing and other fun high yield learning activities. The program helps Club members be prepared for school, feel good about academics, explore science, art and tech and plan for a successful career. Thank to our many supporters of our academic success programs.
Character & Leadership
Servant leadership. Torch Club helps prepare youth for future success by offering service opportunities to serve first, demonstrate courage and living your values. The Club believes that all Club members should serve their school, community and Club.
Youth of the Year
This program is our premier recognition program for youth leaders awarded for honors in all youth development areas. “The Boys & Girls Club of Vista saved my life. I came from a home of abuse and neglect. The only thing in my life was that my biological parents did right was put me up for adoption and my foster mom signed me up for the Club. The staff mentored daily and gave me a gift of self-confidence that I can never repay” Russell Wilson, California State Youth of the Year”
SMART Moves- SMART Girls/ Wise Guys
The SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) prevention/education program focuses on strengthening decision making, conflict resolution and goal setting.
The program uses a team approach involving Club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives. More than simply emphasizing a “Say No” message, the program teaches young people ages 6 to 15 how to say no by involving them in discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence. The ultimate goal: to promote abstinence from substance abuse and adolescent sexual involvement through the practice of responsible behavior. Sponsored in part by the City of Vista and Soroptimists of Vista & North County Inland.
The Boys & Girls Club of Vista offers free music lessons. Join a mariachi band, learn how to play guitar or learn how to dance. Sponsored in part by Forte for Children, Mockingbird Foundation, Moonlight Cultural Foundation and the D’Addario Foundation.
Arts & Crafts
We offer many opportunities for artistic expression through classes, special events, and fine arts exhibits. The program, sponsored by Sony, culminates in the National Fine Arts Exhibit, which premieres at Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Conference.
